Jon Downes is currently general counsel for the Australasia region at Willis Towers Watson (WTW).
He has held a number of general counsel and company secretarial roles. Prior to WTW, he was GC for Genworth Mortgage Insurance Australia, where he helped take the company through a successful IPO. Prior to that, he was GC for ACE Insurance - Australia and New Zealand (now Chubb). He was in private practice with Hogan Lovells in London and then Allens Linklaters in Sydney. His area of expertise is financial services - with a key focus on insurance. He is keenly interested in cyber security - developed from reviewing cyber coverage whilst at ACE, to advising the Board of Genworth and now advising WTW broker clients
He is president of the ACC (NSW). He is also involved in a WTW global project in respect of setting up a pro bono program for WTW lawyers around the world to participate in.
Mr. Downes received his LLB from University College London and a diploma in Corporate Governance from the Australian Governance Institute.
